Many thanks to Judy Kim for coming across this neat site that gives you all kinds of useful ways to use baking soda to cut grease, remove stains, and control odor. Did you ever get frustrated trying to clean the thick dust and grease from the top of your stove? Make a paste of baking soda and vinegar and it will wipe away crystal clean!

Check out the link here:

http://www.greenlivingtips.com/articles/154/1/30-baking-soda-tips.html

March in Motion Recipe: Ground Beef Bibimbap

Ground Beef Bibimbap (This is our simplified version of a classic Korean dish)

Serves: 8, Prep Time: 40 minutes

This is our simplified version of a Korean dish that consists of a bowl of rice mixed with various vegetables and meat. Bibimbap literally means stirred or mixed rice and although it is traditionally served with spinach, bean sprouts, and sliced rib-eye (bulgogee) we have modified the ingredients to be more kid-friendly and economical. The kids really devoured it during the camp so we thought we would provide you the recipe to make at home. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
5 cups cooked short-grain (Korean) rice
2 pounds lean ground beef
¼ cup soy sauce
¼ cup of coke or mirin (asian sweet rice cooking wine)
½ onion ground in food processor
½ cup brown sugar
3 cloves of garlic minced finely
¼ tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp sesame oil
3 carrots peeled and sliced into small thin pieces (preferably using a mandolin or food processor)
2 zuchinnis sliced into thin pieces (preferably using mandolin or food processor)
2 cooking onions sliced thinly
4 to 8 eggs

Directions:

1. Wash and cook rice in rice cooker.

2. Saute julienned carrots with 1 tsp of vegetable oil, salt and pepper until tender (about 5 min) and set aside. Repeat sauté process with zuchinni and onions, setting aside each vegetable in separate bowls.

3. In separate bowl, combine ground beef, soy sauce, coke, mirin, ground onion, sugar, minced garlic, black pepper, sesame oil and mix thoroughly with wooden spoon or gloved hands. (May be refrigerated and left to marinate for 1 to 24 hours for better flavor but can also be cooked immediately)

4. Eggs may be either whisked together and cooked like an omelette and julienned into thin slices (as we served it at the camp) or they may be fried individually sunny-side up as pictured in the image above.)

5. Place a healthy scoop of cooked rice into the bottom of a medium size bowl. Add a little bit of each vegetable and meat to the bowl, topping off the entire bowl with your fried egg.

6. Add some Korean hot chilli paste (gojujang) and a half tsp of sesame oil to your discretion.

Then mix all ingredients together in the bowl and enjoy!

Love In Action

I came across this moving video clip showing Christian volunteers with Billy Graham's last crusade in 2004 distributing food boxes to needy people in the local community. It was a humbling reminder that as God's people, we do indeed have so much to give and that the world around us is filled with people that need the love of Jesus. May this inspire you to share Jesus' love with somebody today.

Jean Chang

To Train Up A Child - Book Review

For all you parents out there, wondering what happened to your darling little angels when they turned 1 or 2...or 5...or 10....well, you get the idea. This book is a must-read that is guaranteed to help you in your endeavour to raise happy, loving children in the Lord. Here's an exerpt of the refreshingly practical advice that Michael and Debi Pearl, the authors of this eye-opening book have to offer to all parents, especially new parents of young infants:

"Proper training always works with every child. To neglect training is to create miserable circumstances for you and your children. Out of ignorance, many have bypassed training and expected discipline alone to effect proper behavior. It hasn't worked, and never will."

Michael and Debi Pearl's whole philosophy is that children must be trained from infancy to obey their parents immediately through deliberate training exercises. Training must be done in a controlled, deliberate manner without anger or emotion. The key to successful training is consistency.

The best part of this book is that the authors derive all of their training and child rearing principles directly from God's Word.
